Accountability. Who are you? What are you doing here?

  • Do you have an intimate relationship with God?

  • Are you doing what God has called you to do?

  • Do you have a fruitful life that glorifies God?

Did you have a problem answering these questions? Check in with God for help. Seek counsel from Pastor Nando or other mature Christians in our church.

God wants to bless us and He will when we are obedient.

What’s Going On?

BINGOWorship with us on Wednesday evenings. It’s a time to be refilled! It’s also lots of fun to be with ohana.

Ohana Movie Night: Mark your calendar for an enjoyable evening at the movies. September 28, Friday, 6:30pm, at the Ministry Center. Bring you friends too.

The last two games were special; in fact all the games are special. There was fun as usual but more important is our team was THE light on and off the field. The opposing teams had a few players who were too serious (argumentative and showing disdain for calls made by the umpire). One coach came and apologized for the actions of their players and complimented us on the fun we had.

It is a blessing to witness God’s people at play. Come join us this Sunday at Kapiolani Park. The team plays a double-header starting at 2:30pm.

Common Grace

My CG child Gabriel is the best! I am enjoying the experience of being with a second grader. The first week he didn’t want me to leave. The second week he asked me to leave early because some other kids were watching a video.

This past week there was a touching experience. Gabriel asked me, “How long are you staying?” I wasn’t sure of his question so I asked him if he meant that afternoon. He said no, “How long are you going to be with me.” This is God stuff, it usually takes me awhile to figure things out, but God gave me immediate insight to the question. Gabriel was asking about my weekly visits. I answered, “Forever, I’ll keep seeing you until I die.” Satisfied with the answer he continued playing our card game.

My prayer: thank you Jesus for giving me the opportunity to make a difference in Gabriel’s life. It’s only 1 hour per week, but it’s an hour that Gabriel can count on. Gabriel needs stability and consistency in his young life. I can make a contribution into his life and it costs me only an hour a week.

Do you want to make a difference in a child’s life? Contact Lorraine Lee to be a Common Grace uncle or auntie. If you don’t feel called or have the time to do a weekly visit, please pray for the ministry and the children.

God is presenting more opportunities to work with our youth. Two programs coming up are United in Prayer and Challenge Day.

United in Prayer

On Tuesday, October 23, thousands will gather at high schools throughout the state to pray for the students, faculty, and school. Last night I attended a meeting called by Pastor Eric Ebisu of Pearl City Community Church. Youth leaders from other Pearl City churches were in attendance (Pearl City CC, Leeward Community Church, and Grace Bible Pearlside).

On the 23rd we will cover Pearl City High with people and prayer. We need your prayers, at the school or if you can’t make it, prayers from wherever you are. The youth pastors from Grace Bible and Pearl City CC told us about the sin and temptation faced by teenagers. Sex, drugs, alcohol, suicide and cutting oneself, sadly, are commonplace, even in Pearl City. These hurting teens need Jesus in their lives.

It starts with prayer. So won’t you join us on the 23rd of October? Please contact Pastor Nando or me if you have questions or would like to participate.

Challenge Day

The next Challenge Day is scheduled for November 14, 15, 16 and 20. Adult facilitators are needed to “just be there” for hand picked students from Pearl City High. Pastor Nando, John Arizumi and I went for the first time last year and it was an eye opening experience.

This is another opportunity to make a difference in the life of a teen. The commitment is just one day, from 7:15am to 3:00pm. Or you can volunteer for all 4 days. If you want more information about Challenge Day go to www.challengeday.org. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know. The deadline to submit names is October 19.

Festival of Hope and Light

Pastors from Japan and jazz entertainers from the Mainland will be staging a revival at the Waikiki Shell on October 19, 20, and 21. Their mission is to evangelize to Japanese speaking residents and visitors. The messages given by the Japan pastors will be translated in English. Please invite your friends and family to this revival. If you’ve never been to one, go check it out. It is very exciting and you won’t be disappointed. For more details go to www.hawaii-mission.com/us/

Multi-media. Would you like to learn how to run the video camera, power point, or even video editing? If you do, see me please. I especially want help with the camera on Sundays.

Encouragement. Ezekiel 12:6 “… for I have made you a sign for the house of Israel.”

God told Ezekiel to “act out” some things to show the Israelites the consequences of their disobedience. Although the story is not uplifting, the verses where God gives Ezekiel instructions was a reminder that I must be obedient and I must be an example for others to follow. We’ve heard it taught before, “you may be the only Jesus your non-Christian co-worker may see.”

We have a responsibility to be a reflection of Jesus. Stories like this make me stop and ask if I’m living up to my responsibilities.

How about you? Are you hearing God’s corrections along with His encouragement?

The last game was special. Our opponent was New Hope Diamond Head. The game was special because of Lucas who has Down’s syndrome. This was a first for me, to see a person with Down’s playing in an organized athletic event. Lucas’ first at bat was a floater to second base. Out of instinct, our second base player caught the ball. Although Lucas was out, he didn’t know it and stayed at first until their half of the inning was over.

Lucas’ second at bat was a slow dribble to Tiny, our pitcher. Tiny got to the ball but allowed Lucas to get to first base. The next two batters were big hitters who eventually drove Lucas home.

It was fun and very touching to see the players of both teams encouraging Lucas as he ran the bases. But the best was when Lucas began running towards first base rather than home plate. Since Lucas was running towards Tiny, Tiny showed him the way to home plate. That was a great sequence and we thank Cheryl for taping it.

We lost the game by a run, but as Tiny said when the game was over, winning isn’t everything. Another great experience and so gratifying to see Christ-like people on both teams!

This Sunday, 2:00pm at Kapiolani Park, come cheer the team and see some exciting God stuff.

Common Grace

Last Friday was my first day / hour with Gabriel, a second grader at Lehua Elementary. Since our grandson Justyn returned to Missouri the kid stuff has been missing in our lives. God seeing that gave me Gabriel. It’s win-win because G (his nickname), enjoys the attention too. What a joy it was to be with a child who is kind and thoughtful. And he loves to talk, something I don’t do with younger kids.

If you want to make a difference and have fun doing it, see Lorraine Lee, our CG Coordinator, to sign up.
